Realistic depiction of a Viet Nam vet. The Selective Service created a cross section of middle to lower America. Your man at the bar sounded like many of the men I served with in the year I was there. Vivid memories but also a little baffling. As if to say, what did it all mean? The world didn't care. But you, the individual, did.
Thanks, George. Yes, I cared a great deal. I did a 21-year civilian-appreciation course in the USMC. I appreciate them now less than I did when I went in. Was scheduled to be a 3rdMarDiv replacement, RVN, for Jan-Feb 1971 but never made it over. Hell of a thing. I was an 0331 at the time (machine gunner) and I could make that pig (M60) dance. :-) Loved it.
I was there 1969-70 in an army artillery battalion. A supply guy but did have limited fun with M60 from within a defensive bunker at LZ Nancy and Dong Ha. 3rd MarDiv territory at the DMZ. One Marine unit ate at our messhall. Terrible people. Always looking for a fight. Ha ha!

I knew you were Army because you mentioned "a year." If I'd made it over, I'd have missed you by a month or two. :-)
Us Army guys get tired after a year and we need to go home.
(grin) yup. we get tired too. wanna go home the next morning. :-)
