Thanks, Vanessa. And hey, trust me, we all have those little devils. :-)
If you're a writer and serious about the craft, you might want to visit my Daily Journal at https://harveystanbrough.substack.com/. Check out some of the posts there, You can subscribe free.
You can also check out my bio at https://hestanbrough.com/my-biography/. I'm a pretty prolific novelist and short story writer, and I like to pay it forward.
I've also started a new Daily Journal (TNDJ) but it's for paid subscribers only. The current rate is only $3 per month or $36 per year. You'll see a subscribe link at the bottom of most of those older posts. On July 1, the rate will go up to $5/$60.
I don't teach what anyone else teaches. Check it out a few posts at that first link. It might help.
Thanks, Harvey. I just recently came across you while searching for solutions to get out of my own way.
I instinctively write best via "cycling" and I hate revisions/editing and write one drafts. But I don't tell anyone because I feel guilty and "bad." I've spent most of my life fighting between following the rules and breaking them.
I've self-published 2 novels and I am working on the 3rd which I'm stuck on because I feel compelled to plan and outline and etc etc etc. And then I ended up here via Heinlein's rules and reading some of my many short stories that don't seem half bad to me as I read them in the distance of passed time which I'm going to self-publish as loosely themed collections. I just need more of them, so I have to accept who and what I am and get writing.
Now that I'm old, I feel the clock ticking and I have so many stories to tell, so I want to get busy. That's my deadline (lol.)
Anyway, thank you for responding. I am spending an enjoyable afternoon wallowing in your offerings.
Holy crap, Harvey! This was fantastic - and worrisome. Hope you're really alright, or at least feeling better. I, for one, do enjoy your weekly stories. And you sent me an inadvertent lifeline with regard to the timeliness of deadlines. Especially those you set yourself, like say, every Wednesday. Here on out I'm going to give myself until 9:am instead of 12:01am ;-)
I really enjoyed reading this. It also gave me some ideas.
I impose deadlines on myself all of the time and never meet them. My little Devil is loud and intimidating.

Vanessa, Thank You! The link is corrected. (I had shortened the URL and forgot to change it on that page. A senior moment. :-))
Cool beans. As you can tell from my posts, I think you're on exactly the right track. :-)

Thanks, Diedre. I wrote that several years ago, probably 2014. :-) But yep, I was up against the deadline.
